This month's Blog Hop has the following inspiration photo for our cards.
My cards are very loosely based on the rainbow cascade of the blocks. I went for a watercoloured background, choosing to not use the square shapes, focussing just on the colours. See that one rogue purple block in the lower right corner? I just had to put that in my first card ;)
My second card is a variation on this same theme/layout, since I needed 2 birthday cards for family this month! These are not my usual style, which is to gravitate for lighter, less vibrant colours. (Going a little out of the box, this month...)
Stamps: Brushed Blooms (and dies), Sentiment Strips (and dies)
Inks: Distress inks for the background, PTI inks for the flowers and sentiment, as well as Versamark ink and white filagree embossing powder
Thanks so much for looking!
Well aren't you up and running already! :) LOVE both of your cards! The watercolor backgrounds are GORGEOUS! So bright and vibrant and your flowers are FABULOUS! Lucky birthday people! Well done! Hope you WIN!!!!

ReplyDeleteJust beautiful Kathryn. Love your colorful pastel-like backgrounds. I always look forward to your projects using watercolor, you have special talent using this medium.
ReplyDeleteYou should step out of your comfort zone more often, Kathryn! Both of these are so beautiful and so vibrant! And I love that you noticed that rogue purple block! I wish I had noticed it, but too late now! Enjoy the hop!! Hugs, Darnell
ReplyDeleteKathryn, they are ever so lovely, both of them. I love your watercoloured backgrounds (and obviously need some more Distress inks, no thanks for that) and I think that little extra purple "rogue" spot on the first one just adds that little je ne sais quoi. Stunning work!
ReplyDeleteWhat fabulous watercolour backgrounds Kathryn and I love your bold flower too.
ReplyDeleteSuch happy, colorful cards!
ReplyDeleteConsidering these aren't your normal style, you created works of art. Beautiful watercoloring and love the pop of purple on the first one. Great ways to add your sentiments, too.

ReplyDeleteLove, love, LOVE your backgrounds on both cards Kathryn! They are so soft and pretty, and really make your bright and bold flowers really "pop"! Primary colors are not my comfort zone either, but you really made great use of them in both cards...your family members are going to love them! :0)
