Make it Monday, #127-Double Backgrounds (No.3)

For this card, I used a colour combination that is out of my comfort zone, and dug out some old stamps to pair with some newer stamps. Mat Stack #4 hasn't been inked in awhile, so I used it as a grounding mat. I made the flower from "Ruby Rose" stamps, which were stamped with Versamark ink, then heat embossed with clear powder. The background is using "Sheet Music" and "Fancy Flourishes", which I really like together. I used Sweet Blush ink, which is pretty light, so I hope you can see it in the photo. The sentiment is also from Mat Stack #4 stamps, and the die is from Tremendous Tags. All materials are from PTI, except the light pink paper, which is from my scraps.

Thanks for looking, and I always appreciate any comments!
Have a great day!

Make it Monday, #127-Double Backgrounds, Tag

I just received this wine bottle die in my last order--it's been on my wish list for a long time--so I thought I'd use it to try doing double backgrounds. I stamped "Fancy Flourishes" and "Sheet Music" in Soft Stone ink, with a "Delightful Dahlia Addition" as the focal point. Using the twine instead of ribbon is one idea I picked up on from Summer Camp 2. I'm sure this die cut will look better when it's on a bottle of wine :)
All materials are PTI. Thanks for looking!

Summer Card Camp 2 Wrap Up

Lisa Haines did a "thank you" card, in honour of our teachers and guest designers, which I thought was such a great idea, that I've copied her :)  Well, I've copied her idea, not her card! I've used the 4th colour combination, but since I didn't feel like using the 2 tones of grays, I went with 2 tones of brown.

So thanks, Jennifer and Kristina, for a terrific card camp!
The stamps, dies and paper are all PTI, except for the sentiment, which is from Avery Elle.

Make It Monday, #127, Double Backgrounds

It's a good thing there was a "Make It Monday" today, as I was going to go into withdrawal from not making cards, now that Summer Card Camp is ending today! And I welcomed the excuse to make another card with Meadow Greens, which is now my favourite stamp set of all time. I Case'd Dawn McVey's layout, stamping the flower image onto the kraft background in ivory ink first, then the fern in kraft ink over top. Then I stamped the die cuts of the flower and leaves for the focal point. I cut Mat Stack #1, and it's coordinating mat, to ground the flower and leaves. I stamped a fern in kraft ink onto the Mat Stack, but stamped it off once, first. The sentiment is from "Bigger Blooms" and was done in Chocolate Brown Ink.
All materials are from PTI. Thanks for looking!

SCC2, Week 3, Day 5

Well, this is the last week for Summer Card Camp 2. It's been a lot of fun, and I believe I've gotten a lot out of it. Here are the colour combo's for the weekend. I've chosen the second to last one for my card, and I'm Case-ing Amy Kolling's beautiful flower card. I really did think I was finished making cards for this class, but then my Papertrey order arrived yesterday :)

Thanks for looking, and thanks for your wonderful comments!!

SCC2, Week 3, Day 1

I was intrigued with Nichole Heady's card so have made one more card, Case-ing her "Tone-on-Tone Background" technique. I used the same sketch as well, as stayed within the challenge of 2 purples, 2 browns and a turquoise. Here is my take on her sketch.

SCC2, Week 3, Day 5

Well, I've deviated from "the script" and have kind of gone off in my own direction today. I loved Amy's  flower card, and was inspired to make this card with my Sweet Peas stamp from PTI. I have loosely followed the second to last colour scheme, substituting blues instead of browns. I watercoloured my flowers instead of sponging. The white background has been dry embossed with my Super Stripes impression plate, from PTI, although it is difficult to see. The sentiment is from WPlus9's "Blanket Stitched Blooms". The paper and inks are from PTI.

SCC2, Week 3, Day 4

Shabby Chic!?? Really? Now, that's really out of my comfort zone... But here is my take on the lovely card that Debby Hughes made. I wish I'd been lighter on the sponged ink on the background, "but live and learn"...

July 2013 Papertrey Blog Hop, #3

I loved the colour combo's so much that I tackled another card!  I used the combination below, with just a little of the Scarlet Jewel in the centers of the flowers. The flowers are from "Bigger Blooms" and the sentiment is from "Live, Love, Life".

July 2013 Papertrey Blog Hop

I chose the following colour scheme for this card, and although I am not a "New Leaf" green-sort-of-person, I thought I'd give it a go. (I still think I'd like it better with Spring Moss, or Simply Chartruese. Oh well, you've gotta try new things, right?)

Thanks for looking!

All materials are PTI, unless otherwise noted.
Stamps: Round Repeats, Sketched Shapes, Embroidered Blooms, Lovely Layers
Paper: Ivory, Lemon Tart, New Leaf, Melon Berry
Inks: Harvest Gold, Summer Sunrise, Berry Sorbet, Dark Chocolate
Dies: Turning a New Leaf, Basic Circles (Spellbinders), Sketched Shapes
Other: Chevron cover Plate, green rhinestones from my stash, clear embossing powder

SCC2, Week 3, Day 3

I was inspired by all of the cards again today, but settled on Melissa's card to CASE. Melissa always has such a soft, feminine touch to her cards, which I greatly admire, but can't seem to do myself, so I challenged myself to try one like hers. I used vellum as my second layer, and omitted the buttons. I also had a tag made of kraft cardstock, but it just looked too heavy. (Why does it look so great on Melissa's card, but not mine?!?) So I changed it to ivory, and stamped in Dark Chocolate ink. Better. But I still like hers best....

SCC2, Week 3, Day 2

I had to try one more today, using Betsy's colour blocking and die cutting technique. I also felt I was ignoring the men in my life, so I challenged myself to do a masculine card, using some old paper I've had for quite awhile. The blue paper also has some purple tones in it, so that's the purple. The aqua is the spotted paper. I die cut the centre out, then embossed the sentiment with gold powder onto the dark brown card stock, which is the card base. I like the touch of real cherry wood veneer across the middle.

Thanks for looking!

SCC2, Week 3, Day 2

I can't believe that there are only a couple of days left in Summer Card Camp! It's been busy, but fun. For today's cards, I used Jennifer's layout at a guideline for my first card, and Sarah's ideas for my second card. I still want to do a third card, so I can try Betsy's design paper technique, but the weather is great, and groceries need to be bought!
On this first card, I used copper embossing powder on the flourishes and the sentiment. I used two layers for the flourish, as was suggested. I also did some leaves and heat embossed the tips with holographic embossing powder for some sparkle. For the purple, I added two birds and a heart above the sentiment. The browns are the copper embossing powder, as well as the bird's nest :)

For this card, I used Sarah's idea of partial cover plate die cuts. For this one, I had to sneak in a bit of the aqua colour, so the first layer of the flower is inked in Aqua Mist, followed by Winter Wisteria and then Royal Velvet (PTI). The sentiment is also stamped in Royal Velvet.

SCC2, Week 3, Day 1

The colours certainly were a challenge this week, but I dug out the Perfect Pearls again (Interference Violet, Forever Violet, and Turquoise) and used the first sketch. I also used Cuttlebug's Herringbone folder and some twine to add interest. The feather stamp and sentiment are from Clearly Besotted's "Fancy Feathers".
Thanks for looking!

Make it Monday #126 and Summer Card Camp, Week 3, Day 1

Betsy Veldman, at Papertrey Ink, had a unique idea of creating 3-D lettering on today's Make It Monday. I chose the "hello" die and stamps, along with a Copic Marker to do the shadowing. The stars are from the "Stargazer" dies, and they are coated with Zig Wink of Stella glitter. This colour combination is from the Summer Card Camp 2, and what a challenge it was! 2 browns, 2 purples and an aqua. Not my favourite combo, but I did it, and am happy enough with the way it turned out.

All materials are from Papertrey Ink.

July 2013 Papertrey Blog Hop and Summer Card Camp 2 (Week 2, Day 5)

I've made this card for Summer Card Camp 2, and for Papertrey Ink's July Blog Hop. Both have some wonderful colour challenges. I've used the first 1 out of the SCC "additional combo's", and PTI's "Fruits of Summer", as seen below.
                   Fruits-of-Summer-3

Jennifer McGuire demonstrated a way of doing a tri-fold card, and this is my take on it. The flowers are from WPlus9 and the vase (Mega Gracious Vases), the sentiment (Think Big Favourites) and the paper are all from PTI. Here is the card held closed by a pin.
And here it is when it opens up. I chose to adhere the bottom portion to the card, as it just seemed to look better. Thanks for looking, and as always, all comments are appreciated!

SCC2, Week 2, Day 5

Today we were bedazzled by many a good example and new ideas. I chose to copy--ahem, I should say "Case", shouldn't I?--Jessica Witty's beautiful vellum card. I used different stamps, but the same colour choices (see 5th one down) and chose to sew my card front together. I don't usually sew on cards, as I don't like to dull my machine's needles, but I thought it would be a good idea to connect these many layers together! I don't remember what the wheat and butterfly stamp is, and the grass in the bottom layer is from the same, nameless stamp set. However, the middle layer is from PTI's "Daydreamer" stamp set.

SCC2 Week 2, Day 4

Hi. I loved the cards today--what great ideas. It was hard to choose which technique to try first, but I went with the Perfect Pearls that Kristina demonstrated, since I liked the feather card I did the other day so much, seen here . It looked so shimmery with the Perfect Pearls! I used 4 colours of Perfect Pearls: Perfect Pearl, Forever Green, Interference Green and Copper. I loved Dawn McVey's card, so I decided to CASE hers, but use the Perfect Pearls instead of stamping.
Thanks for looking--I always appreciate your comments!

SCC2, Week 2, Day 3

Well, I think I've covered all of my bases with this card. I've followed this week's colour scheme, I've used sketch #2, and I've managed to incorporate the following demonstrated techniques: ombre heat embossing (feather), tissue flowers and plaid stamping. I'm sorry the copper embossing powder doesn't show up a little better! The only technique I missed was a shaker card, but that will have to be another day :)

Thanks for looking, and I always appreciate your comments.

As a side note, I just had to share last night's spectacular west coast sunset with you!

SCC2, Week 2, Day 2

I CASe'd Jennifer's card today, using Mini Blooms, by PTI. I used Distress Peacock Feathers re-inkers to add some depth to the flowers and the leaves, then I stamped over top with Versamark and  then heat embossed with clear powder. The banner is from Simon Says Stamp, and the sentiment is from PTI. I actually broke down and performed surgery on this one line stamp, as it was too difficult to mask and stamp it on 3 lines. It is now 3 separate stamps!
Thanks for looking, and I appreciate your comments!

SCC2, Week 2, Day 1

This week's challenge is to incorporate the following colours: Ivory, blue, light green, medium green and brown. I've been wanting to break open my new stamp set "Fancy Feathers", by Clearly Besotted. The arrow is from "Live, Love, Laugh", by PTI. I decided to try using Perfect Pearls and Versamark Ink on dark chocolate card stock. Love the way it turned out! It practically glows!
Thanks for looking and I appreciate your comments!

Summer Card Camp 2, Week 2, Day 1

I used the first sketch, the circle shape card, as well as all of the colours. This card will be for my youngest granddaughter, just to say "hi". I used Nestabilities dies and a variety of papers to create this card. The butterfly is from Memory Box, I cut out the bottom layer out of vellum and put Zig Wink of Stella glitter on it.
I'm not really fond of shaped cards, usually, but I kind of like how this turned out! Thanks for looking!

Make it Monday, #125 Defined Watercolours

For this week's Make it Monday, Erin has challenged us to use watercolour paints as well as inks to make "defined watercolours". I loved Erin's card, so decided to CASe hers... (Let's just say I like hers better, and that I need more practice.) However, I wanted to send a card to my eldest granddaughter, so this is it! I used "Rosie Posie" and "Daydreamer" flower stamps and the sentiment is from "Happiness in Bloom".

Make it Monday, #124 Decorated Envelopes No. 3 and Summer Card Camp 2, Day 5

We have a new assortment of colour combinations to choose from this week, in the Summer Card Camp, and I've chosen the third one down. The inks I used were PTI's Aqua Mist, Hawaiian Shores, Winter Wisteria, Plum Pudding, and Summer Sunrise. I used the sentiment masking technique that was demonstrated in Week 1, as well as the banner sketch from week one. The stamps used were PTI's new "Round Repeats", "Stylish Sentiments-Birthday" and "Sew Simple Borders".
For this week's Make it Monday, I also decorated the envelope to match--simply, but hey, I don't really like a lot of "frou-frou" on envelopes, especially if they're going to be mailed :)

Thanks for looking!

SCC, Week 1, Day 4 (No.2)

Since the first card was so quick, and I already had the ivory daisy die cut, I went ahead and made another card. This one only took about 7 minutes. First I die cut the daisy out of the kraft card stock, then fitted in the ivory daisy that I had left over from the first card. I think I like this colour combo better. The only regret is that I didn't swipe the outside edges of the popped up front panel with white ink. Next time... The paper and stamps are PTI, the daisy die is from Simon Says Stamp.
Thanks for looking!

SCC, Week 1, Day 4

Today we have been challenged to make a card in under 10 minutes. I knew I wanted a CAS card for this, and made sure I planned it out ahead of time. It was pretty easy to do, using the SSS "Fresh Daisy" die, and two colours of cardstock. The stamp is from PTI's "Bigger Blooms". I did make it in under 10 minutes, coming in at around the 9 minute mark :)

Make it Monday, #124 Decorated Envelopes No. 2 and Summer Card Camp 2

Here is another card and decorated envelope to match. I used the narrow banner from PTI's "Sketched Shapes" to make the banner flags for the front of the card, using 6 different colours of scraps. I had an inch, or so, left over from each piece, so I used them to make a decoration for the envelope flap, adding two other shapes from the "Sketched Shapes" dies over top. The flower is from PTI's "Ruby Rose" stamp set, and the "birthday" is from "Wonderful Words: Birthday", also PTI. I put Glossy Accents on the die cut to help it stand out.
I'm having fun using colours I wouldn't have normally chosen, thanks to the Summer Card Camp 2 challenges!

Thanks for looking!

Make it Monday #124, Decorated Envelopes #1

For this week's Make it Monday, at Papertrey Ink, we have been challenged to decorate our envelopes to match our cards. Great idea! For this card, I used the Wonderful Words: Hello die and the background paper is from MME. Since I cut a piece of that background paper out to make a banner, I thought it would make a perfect addition to the envelope flap. I used enamel dots on the front, and thought they would get knocked off in the mail if I put them on the envelope, too, so I used my Copics to mimic the effect of the enamel dots. I've also entered this card in the Summer Card Camp 2 challenge this week.

Thanks for looking!

Summer Card Camp 2, Week 1

Here is another card with the colours and sketches provided. I used the "hello" die from PTI's "Wonderful Words" collection, which had been cut out from some watercoloured paper. The background paper is from MME and some enamel dots finished it off. Lots of dimensional foam tape was used to pop the word up, as well as the designer paper onto the card base.

Thanks for looking, and I appreciate your comments!

Summer Card Camp 2-Week 1

This is a watercoloured card using Distress Inks and watercolour paper. I then stamped the flower outlines (Gina K) on top of the background, with Hero Arts black ink, then touched up the flowers and leaves with Copics.  Some glitter and Perfect Pearls finish off the flowers.

Thanks so much for looking!
